Comparing an 18th-century map of Bunce Island in the Sierra Leone River in West Africa with a modern Google Maps image, you can easily see the outline of the original RAC fort there.
17th-18th centuries
Bunce Island, Sierra Leone, from 1670, is affirmed on this date. This was a major launching point of the Middle Passage to America, first settled by English slave traders in about 1670.
